2015 Black Label Mataro

Beyond old-vine Shiraz and small spots of beautiful Cabernet, one of the many benefits Barossa’s Western Ridge is dry-grown, bush-trained Mataro. Not as majestic as Cabernet, and not as plush as Shiraz, Mataro has instead a workman-like charm of warm, berry fruit, and savoury, herbal spice. This example has both elements to the fore, with generosity, character and punch.

Above all else, we think Mataro calls for a bit of ‘char’ – those bar-strokes of a bbq that bring a smoky, slightly crunchy edge to food, whether it be porterhouse or pumpkin! So stoke up the bbq, fire-pit or even just a grill-pan, and set your imagination free, as this wine will follow you every step of the way.
